Principal's Message

Principal's Message

Greetings GV Falcons!

My name is Mrs. Firpo and I am the principal at Garden Valley.  I am so excited to be starting phase 2 - hybrid learning. I am looking forward to seeing your happy, smiling faces at school and on Zoom. I know that hybrid learning is not ideal, but as I said in August 2020, buildings do not make a school.  It is the students, staff, and families that truly matter!

Get ready for an engaging, exciting new hybrid adventure at Garden Valley Elementary!

Hybrid learning begins on

Tuesday, April 6, 2021

Arrival and Dismissal

Arrival Protocols:

  • Students are allowed on site at 8:05 AM.
  • Gates will not be open for students to be dropped off before 8:05 am due to social distancing requirements.
  • Parents will drop the students off at the front entry gate. Social distancing requirements remain in effect on the sidewalk outside of the gate.
  • Preschool, kindergarten and first grade students will enter at the South end Larchwood Drive gate, near the kindergarten building.  Grades 2 - 6 will enter at the main, center pedestrian gate on Larchwood Drive.
  • Supervision will be provided by Garden Valley Staff Members from 8:05 - 8:15 am in the front parking lot.
  • Students will immediately line up in their designated classroom lines, marked by a cone and sign with their teacher’s name.  Painted dots are located on the ground for social distancing between students.
  • Due to COVID protocols, parents are not permitted on school grounds without an appointment with the front office.  All scheduled visitors will need to do a COVID screener, prior to entering the front office.  In person appointments will be available beginning at 8:30 am until 10:15 am and then again between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm.  Parents are welcomed to call the front office with any questions between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.
  • If you need an in person appointment, please call 916.566.3460.

Dismissal Protocols:

  • Students will be walked to the front parking lot at 10:56 AM and students will line up again at their designated location.
  • Parents will be in line, socially distanced, outside of Garden Valley on the sidewalk
  • As parents make their way to the front of the line outside of the appropriate gates, the students will be dismissed to the exit gates to meet their parents.
  • For siblings who may be walking home without parent supervision, please notify your children’s teachers.  We will have a cone set up for siblings to meet each other, socially distanced from other households, and will then be allowed to exit the gate and walk home.

Protocols for students not picked up by 11:06 am:

  • Students who have not been picked up by 11:06 am will be supervised by the noon time assistants on the black benches in the front hallway.  The front office staff will immediately begin contacting parents.
  • If a student is repeatedly picked up late, student may be placed on cohort C to participate in distance learning for the remainder of the school year.

Visitor Protocols

In accordance with Twin Rivers policy, starting the week of March 22, 2021:

- Visitors are allowed in the office by appointment only.
- Visitors may not enter the actual campus.
- Visitors to the office will be screened for COVID symptoms, including a touchless temperature check.
- Visitors to the office must wear a face covering.

Restroom Protocols

Students will have their ID card on a lanyard.  When a student needs to use the restroom during the instructional morning, the teacher will indicate the student’s name and time on the restroom check out sheet (to reduce the rotational contact of the writing utensil with students).  Students will walk to the restroom.  If there is an empty hook on the bathroom door, that indicates that there is a restroom stall available.  Student’s will hang their ID badge on the hook on the door.  Student will then utilize the restroom.  When they exit the restroom, the student will retrieve their badge from the hook.  If there is NOT an empty hook, the student must wait OUTSIDE of the restroom, until a student exits.  Social distancing must be maintained at all times.

One stall in the girls’ restroom and one stall in the boys’ restroom (located at the front of the school) will be marked as “PRESCHOOL ONLY”.  This is necessary for ECE protocols at this time.  The appropriate number of hooks outside the door will already take this information into consideration.
